Displaying clip properties

You can view the properties for the clips you import or capture in Windows Movie Maker, including video, audio, and pictures. Clip properties provide information that can help you determine what the clip contains, as well as how it may fit into your project.

Title

Displays the title of the current Windows Movie Maker project. No title is entered by default. However, you can enter a title that fits your project. The title you enter becomes the title for your final saved movie, which is displayed by many media players when the movie is played back. The maximum number of characters for the title is 128.

Author

Displays the name of the author for the current Windows Movie Maker project. The default author name matches the author name displayed in the Default author box of the Options dialog box. However, you can enter a different author name for your project if you choose. The author name you enter becomes the author name for your final saved movie, which is displayed by many media players when the movie is played back. The maximum number of characters for the author is 128.

Duration

Displays the duration of the current Windows Movie Maker project in the form of hours:minutes:seconds.hundreths of a second. This lets you quickly determine the length of your project and final saved movie.

Copyright

Displays copyright information for the current project. You can enter any applicable copyright information about the current project. The copyright information you enter is displayed by many media players when the movie is played back. The maximum number of characters for the copyright is 14.

Rating

Displays any rating information for the current project. You can enter a rating for this movie according to your own criteria. The rating you enter becomes the rating for your final saved movie, which is displayed by many media players when the movie is played back. The maximum number of characters for the rating is 20.

Description

Displays any description you may enter for the current project and final saved movie. The description you enter becomes the description for your final saved movie, which is displayed by many media players when the movie is played back. The maximum number of characters for the description is 512.

To edit project properties
  1. On the File menu, click Properties. 
  2. In the Project Properties dialog box, enter the following information: 
      * In the Title box, type a title for your project.
      * In the Author box, type the name of the author of the project.
      * In the Copyright box, type any copyright information you want to add.
      * In the Rating box, type a rating for the current project.
      * In the Description box, type a short description for your project.

To display project properties in Windows Explorer
  1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. On the View menu, click Details.
  3. On the View menu, click Choose Details.
  4. In the Choose Details dialog, choose the details you want to view for your Windows Movie Maker projects such as the file name, author, project title, and so forth.
